A 47-year-old Alpine man was rescued late Sunday after being stranded on a ledge at an elevation of 7,000 feet in American Fork Canyon.
Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Bennett said the man was hiking when he became lost about 5:30 p.m. and was able to contact family members on his cell phone. It was too dark to use a helicopter, but members of the Utah County Search and Rescue Team were able to reach the man by rapelling down to the ledge, he said.
The man still was being brought down from the canyon at 10:15 p.m. He was not injured, Bennett said.
