Ice Dogs shut out Griz, who set shots-allowed record

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Long Beach Ice Dogs defeated the Utah Grizzlies 3-0 Friday night.

Utah (3-9-2) outshot the Ice Dogs 12-7 in the first period. However, Long Beach outshot Utah 33-4 in the second period as the Dogs built a 3-0 lead on two 5-on-5 goals and one 5-on-3 goal. Brandon Schwartz scored at 9:20 and 14:44 of the period. Ash Goldie's power-play goal came at 13:00 of the period, with the 33 shots allowed by Utah in the period setting a team record.

Matt Craig rejoined the Grizzlies from the AHL Manitoba Moose. Newly acquired forwards Brendan Cook and Tyler Liebel and defenseman Chris Trick are expected to join the team tonight in Fresno, the first of a four-game California trip. Faceoff is 8:30 p.m.
