A must-read for everyone should be the article "Property tax deferral plan could give seniors a break" (Nov. 16). This plan looks to be just a more efficient means for government to seize homes from older people who are being taxed beyond their ability to pay. We already have reverse mortgage. This new idea is neither needed or wanted.
What is needed is a plan patterned after Green Belt. This Senior Belt plan would limit property tax increases on those 65 and older until the property changes hands. At the change, the deferred tax would be picked up back four years.
Is a piece of family agricultural property more sacred than a family home?
I would like to point out unless you die first, everyone will reach 65 and beyond.
