Last night, art changed my life. The "Beholding Salvation" exhibit at the BYU Museum of Art is exquisite. Brian Kershisnik's masterpiece portrays the Nativity with reverent, symbolic, realistic, innocent joy. Exhausted, Mary reclines, nursing the new baby. Joseph kneels behind her back, in keeping with orthodox Judaism. His eyes are closed with prayers of relief. His hand rests tenderly on her shoulder. Two awestruck handmaids face the holy family, washing blood from the birthing cloths. A litter of puppies and their mother represent the animal kingdom. Above the scene, an arching rush of white-clad angels of all ages presses forward to witness.
And that was just one painting. I cannot say a hundredth part of what I experienced. Thank you for the early and eternal Christmas present.
