PLAYER OF THE GAME Sausan Shakerin
Alta's junior running back churned out 276 yards the second-highest rushing total in state championship game history and scored three TDs.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Sausan Shakerin scores from 8 yards out with 51 seconds remaining, but the Hawks can't complete the ensuing two-point conversion after two 5-yard penalties, and Bingham hangs on for the win. Bingham's Jordan Pendleton bats down Alta's pass attempt.
KEY CALL
Having called two QB sneaks earlier in the drive, Bingham offensive coordinator John Lambourne decides to call play-action out of a QB sneak, which works perfectly. QB Dusty Heap finds Jordan Pendleton wide open to put Bingham ahead, 21-13, late in the third quarter.
QUOTABLE
"The game of the ages. We knew coming in it was two great teams. I don't think the game disappointed anyone." Les Hamilton, Alta head coach
LOOKING AHEAD
Both programs have risen near the top of the Class 5A pecking order. Each team loses crucial players, but expect both of them to be contenders again next year thanks to outstanding depth in the programs. Alta running back Sausan Shakerin will be billed as the state's top returning player.
