Utah's swan hunting season ends Dec. 10. The 2,000 hunters who drew a hunting permit earlier this fall are the only hunters allowed to hunt swans.

SKI EVENT PLANNED

The XTERRA Winter World Championships will stop in Utah this year.

The newly created winter event is a spin-off of the XTERRA USA Championship Series — a summer series featuring more than 50 events featuring open-water swimming, mountain biking and trail running. For the past two years Utah has hosted some of the stops.

The Winter Championship, which will be open to pro and amateur athletes, will offer both single stage races — nordic ski, snow bike and snow run — as well as a multisport version with a triathlon-like format.

In addition to the three main competition events, organizers may also host "demo" events, such as ice climbing, bobsledding, snowboarding, skating and downhill skiing.
