Eagle Mountain to appoint new mayor

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — The City Council will choose from among 17 applicants in a special session at 7 tonight at City Hall, 1650 E. Stagecoach Run, to appoint a new mayor.

The appointee will take the place of Mayor Brian Olsen, who resigned last month amid allegations he falsified travel expense forms.

Olsen was charged in 4th District Court with seven third-degree felony counts of misuse of public funds.

The new mayor will serve until November 2007.

Applicants include City Councilman David Blackburn and former BYU football standout Ifo Pili, who is the city's management analyst.

Another applicant, Michael Edwards, attempted to run for the office last year but was defeated in the primary.
