ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN: THE COMPLETE FIFTH & SIXTH SEASONS (Warner, 1956-58, five discs, $39.98). True, this series was aimed more at kids in these final two color seasons, but for those of us who grew up in the '50s, this is wonderfully nostagic stuff. These in-color episodes include a robot who is a danger to Superman (Reeves), Jimmy (Jack Larson) dreams that he and Lois (Noel Neill) have Superman's powers, and Supeman gets married, sort of and not to Lois!
Extras: Full frame, 26 episodes, featurette, subtitle options (English, French, Spanish), chapters.
LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN: THE FOURTH SEASON (Warner, 1996-97, six discs, $59.98). Hatcher and Cain have the title roles here, of course, as Lois & Clark/Superman finally tie the knot. Sadly, the final episode ends with a cliffhanger that was never resolved. Drew Carey, Harry Anderson and Delta Burke also show up.
Extras: Full frame, 22 episodes, interactive "Superman" timeline hosted by Cain, subtitle options (English, French, Spanish).
THE INSPECTOR LYNLEY MYSTERIES 4 (WGBH, 2005, four discs, $39.95). This fine English detective series about an aristocratic male inspector (Nathaniel Parker) and his working-class female sergeant-partner (Sharon Small) is an excellent exploration of Great Britain's class system, intertwined in interesting mysteries. Nice wrap-up of "Season 3" cliffhanger.
Extras: Widescreen, four episodes, optional English subtitles, chapters.
GUNSMOKE: THE DIRECTORS COLLECTION (CBS/Paramount, 1955-75, b/w and color, three discs, $39.99). More classic episodes of a great Western show, collected with the emphasis on directors, including some actors who went behind the camera Dennis Weaver, Peter Graves, William Conrad, Victor French, and such stalwarts as Andrew McLaglen ("Shenandoah," "McLintock!"), Mark Rydell ("The Cowboys," "On Golden Pond"), Arthur Hiller ("Love Story," "The In-Laws"), etc.
Extras: Full frame, 15 episodes, audio commentaries, featurettes, Amanda Blake's appearance on "The Mike Douglas Show," a clip of Ken Curtis from "Have Gun Will Travel," four audio-only "Gunsmoke" radio shows, optional English subtitles.
CSI: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON (CBS/Paramount, 2005-06, six discs, $54.99). More blood-and-guts murders solved by the original Las Vegas "CSI" team, ending with an interoffice romance revelation.
