Veterans Day events

9 a.m., veterans march at Orem City Cemetery, 1500 N. 800 East.

11 a.m., veterans parade starting at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road, and ending at the new Veterans Memorial in West Jordan Park.

11 a.m., short program at the Eldred Senior Center, 270 W. 500 North., Provo. Speakers include Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, and Provo Mayor Lewis K. Billings.

11:30 a.m., veterans USO show at SCERA, 745 S. State, Orem.

12:45 p.m., veterans memorial program at West Jordan Park featuring West Jordan Mayor David Newton; Maj. Gen. Peter Cooke, commanding general of the 96th Regional Readiness Command; and Colleen Parkin of Gold Star Mothers.

2 p.m., the Utah Division of Veterans Affairs will host a program at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale. Former prisoners of war will be honored. For more information, call 801-326-2372.

7 p.m., the Utah National Guard's 23rd Army Band will play at a free Veterans Day concert in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Students from area high schools will sing during the concert.

Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park is offering free admission for military veterans, police officers and their immediate families. The aviary's bald eagle, Anami, will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also, the group Operation Give is asking people this weekend and on Monday to donate gift items and Christmas stockings for troops in Iraq. The drop-off locations are at any Utah Golden Corral and at Colonial Flag, 9390 S. 300 West in Sandy. For more information, log on to www.operationgive.org.
