PROVO A jury deciding the fate of a man accused of trying to kill his children has announced it cannot reach a verdict.
The jury tasked with hearing arguments in the case of Christopher Young, charged with three counts of attempted aggravated murder and three counts of child abuse, stopped deliberations about 3 a.m. Friday.
Paul Vance, trial court executive for 4th District Court in Provo, said the jury told the judge they could not arrive at a verdict.
The jury had been deliberating since just before 8 p.m. Thursday night.
Young, 36, was accused of allegedly trying to kill his children and himself by driving off of a cliff at Point of the Mountain this spring.
Verdicts in criminal cases must be unanimous. A "hung jury" means that the jurors were unable to reach a decision that everyone could agree upon.
The case will be retried, although a trial date has not yet been set, Vance said.
