The Democratic challenger for Salt Lake County auditor is asking for a recount.
The final tally Tuesday night put Democrat Jeff Hatch 344 votes behind incumbent Sean Thomas, a Republican.
The numbers could change, as the clerk's office has yet to count provisional and absentee ballots. Those results won't be ready until the official canvass on Nov. 21, said Jason Yocom, deputy county clerk.
"We have a new and untested electronic voting system this year," Hatch said. "The public needs to know that a race this close has been decided fairly and without errors."
