Utah County weighs raising hotel tax

PROVO — Utah County commissioners considered raising hotel transient room taxes by 1 and 1/4 percent Tuesday, but delayed voting on the tax for one week in order to gather more feedback from local hotels.

If the tax increase is approved, the total transient room tax will be a little more than 4 percent. Added to other room taxes, customers would pay about 12 percent for taxes on top of a flat room rate.

The tax would be enacted in April 2007.
