BYU

WOMEN'S GOLF: Senior Rachel Newren has been named the Mountain West Conference women's golfer of the month for October. Newren, a Salt Lake City native, paced the Cougars with a ninth-place finish out of 77 golfers at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Oct. 9-11. She posted a 54-hole total of 8-over-par 224.

MEN'S GOLF: The BYU men's golf team finished the second day of tournament play in first place at the Pacific Invitational. The Cougars ended the day at 22-under-par, five strokes away from the second place team. Daniel Summerhays is currently tied for first place at the Invitational with a nine-under. If Summerhays finishes the tournament in first place, this will be the first tournament win of his college career as well as his fourth top-10 finish of the season. Fellow Cougar teammate Clay Ogden had an impressive day at the Brookside Country Club as he hit a 66 on the par 72 course.

Utah

VOLLEYBALL: One match is on the schedule this week as the No. 9-ranked University of Utah volleyball team (22-2, 13-0 Mountain West) will host Wyoming (11-2, 5-7 MWC) in its its regular season home finale. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Crimson Court.

Utah State

VOLLEYBALL: Despite 20 kills from Amanda Nielson, Utah State's women's volleyball team lost a four-game match at Idaho State Tuesday night by final scores of 32-30, 26-30, 17-30, and 28-30. With the loss, Utah State falls to 12-16 on the season, while Idaho State improves to 10-20 overall with the win. The loss also snaps a seven-match winning streak for the Aggies against the Bengals. Jessica Gurney led Idaho State with 19 kills, while Katie Hurst and Nikki Havens each added 15 kills.

SLCC

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Bruins split two games at home over the weekend, beating Western Wyoming, 67-33, on Friday, and losing to No. 4 Arizona Western, 69-61, on Saturday. Freshman Andy Palmer had 15 points and five rebounds in Friday's win, while Gary Wilkinson had 20 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The No. 7 Bruins lost in overtime on the road to Casper College, 70-63, on Friday. Breanne Law led SLCC with 14 points.

Snow College

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Badgers competed in a two-day tournament at Salt Lake Community College last weekend, losing to No. 4 Arizona Western, 71-68, on Friday, and beating Western Wyoming, 82-66, on Saturday.

Southern Utah

SOCCER: SUU had two student-athletes voted to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Thunderbirds were represented by senior midfielder Merilee Ford, who was voted to the first team, and senior defender Ashley Smith, who garnered second-team recognition.

Weber State

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: After dropping its first exhibition game of the season last Saturday, the Weber State women's basketball team picked up a win Monday night. The Wildcats blew out Div. II Fort Lewis College 86-54 and now prepare for the regular season Saturday.
