SPRINGVILLE Fairy-tale princes from the stories of "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Rapunzel" step out of the pages and into a play by youths from ages 8-17.
"The Three Princes" is presented by Emerson College's Young Artists Entertainment Group, an after-school program for kids interested in the performing arts.
The group meets at the John Hafen Historical House, 1002 S. Main, which is now the campus for the arts college. They perform at the Royal Palace in Spanish Fork.
The program includes workshops in voice, dance, acting, fencing, theater and music, Lockwood said. This semester also includes a performance tour to Disneyland.
The action-filled "Three Princes" remakes the fairy tales from the princes' points of view. The plot has the princes as three brothers who are jealously sabotaged by Donovand, a sorcerer who had lost the love of their mother, the queen.
The production features all the fairy-tale villains, including Cinderella's stepmother, the witch who guards Rapunzel and Wednesday, the black fairy who is after Sleeping Beauty. Cinderella's stepsisters provide comic relief along with two young and inept pages. The godmother and a great warrior, Morgan, are heroes.
The princes are played by John Cobb as hotheaded Egan, the eldest; Raphael Price as Garrett, the foppish and very adept swordsman; and Cody Wiscomb as Chance, the youngest who would rather read than worry about balls and kingdoms. Emma Tate plays Cinderella; Sleeping Beauty is played by Rachel Cobb and Rapunzel by Tadia Chang.
