With Fisher questionable, Sloan turns to Brown

A mild strain to his right hamstring did not keep veteran guard Derek Fisher from playing against his old team, but it did in part prompt the Jazz to shuffle their lineup for Saturday's 106-82 win over Golden State.

The resulting moves shed some light onto the issue of who has the upper edge in the battle between second-round draft choice Dee Brown and undrafted Brian Chase for the club's No. 3 point position.

With Fisher's statu uncertain right up until game time, the Jazz decided to inactivate ex-BYU center Rafael Araujo and add Brown to the 12-man active roster.

Chase remained inactive for a third straight game, as did undrafted swingman Roger Powell Jr.

Araujo, acquired in an offseason trade with Toronto, still has not made his Jazz regular-season debut. He dressed for, but did not play in, Utah's first two games of the season.

Fisher said he felt a tug in his hamstring in the second half of Friday's win at Phoenix, but the longtime Los Angeles Laker who played two years with the Warriors before being dealt to Utah last July did return to finish against the Suns.

After picking up early foul trouble in Saturday's first half, he spent time on a stationary bike to keep the hamstring loose before entering off the bench in the third quarter.

Afterward, having finished with six points and three assists in 15 minutes, he said the muscle group felt fine.

"When coach called my name ... I was ready to go," Fisher said.

ALUMNI UPDATES: Ex-Jazz guard Andre Owens — traded to Golden State as part of the offseason deal that brought Fisher to Utah, then waived by the Warriors before the season began — was selected by the Anaheim Arsenal in the second round of last week's NBA Development League draft.

Owens played 23 games as an undrafted rookie for the Jazz last season before succumbing to a tibia stress fracture that required rod-insertion surgery.

Former Jazz guard and Utah native Devin Brown also was part of the Fisher-to-the-Jazz trade, and also was waived by the Warriors before the season began. A few NBA teams have exhibited potential interest in signing him, but so far Brown has yet to latch on with another club.

The third ex-Jazz guard shipped to Golden State in the Fisher deal, Keith McLeod, has a sprained ankle and was inactive Saturday.
