Salt Lake County races
Pignanelli: Salt Lake County Council member Jim Bradley will lead the Democrats to retain control of the various offices they hold, with a possible pickup of an additional position.
Webb: County Council and other county races were more competitive than they've been in years. Democrats continue to show strength in Salt Lake County by picking up a few seats.
Ballot proposals
Webb: Utahns show they're willing to spend tax dollars on good causes. Despite a lot of confusion and a very late campaign start, Proposition 3 in Salt Lake County and the Opinion Question in Utah County both narrowly win, boosting prospects for expansion of TRAX and commuter rail. Open space and zoo, arts and parks also win. (Disclosure: I'm helping direct the campaign for Proposition 3 and the Opinion Question in Utah County.)
Pignanelli: Without organized opposition, Proposition 3 will cross the finish line by a handful of percentage points.
A key race to watch is the retention election for Judge Leslie Lewis in the 3rd Judicial District. The heated exchange between the judge and the relative of a defendant appearing before her was captured on film and has been distributed through the Internet. This reflects a dynamic occurring in other states: Statements and actions by public officials are forever memorialized on Web sites like YouTube to become possible fodder for opponents.
