The Riverton City Council will have a new member when it meets Nov. 14.
Karma Bentson was unanimously selected last week to fill the vacant District 2 seat on the council. Bentson, who lives in the district, will serve the remaining 14 months of Lisa Mariano's term.
Mariano resigned Sept. 30 after nearly three years in office, citing personal reasons.
Bentson worked 15 years for Murray, most recently as the city's deputy director of finance and administration. She resigned from that position in June to be a stay-at-home mom.
Bentson said she didn't have any plans to seek public office until she learned of the vacancy in her community.
"I enjoy municipal government," she said. "With all the experience I've had in it, I thought it would be a great next step."
