Please, will someone just make public the amazing costs to the taxpayers of the UTA? Bill Barton's letter (Readers' Forum, Oct. 28) has the number $3.61 per passenger mile but no one seems to care. My state senator dropped by last weekend and could quote it exactly and saw nothing wrong. He said, "We have to invest in mass transit." A 30-mile round-trip from Sandy to downtown costs $108.30! I'm not kidding.
We need public transportation, but we need to be honest about it. Where is the Utah Taxpayer's Association, our politicians and even this newspaper? Or does everyone think that $108 ride is just fine?
