For the second time this year, city councils in Fruit Heights and Kaysville will select replacements to fill council vacancies.

Fruit Heights City Councilman Hoyt Stephenson, who is moving to Wyoming, will officially step down Dec. 5. Casey Hill, who has been on the Kaysville City Council since January 2004, has taken a job with the American Heart Association, which requires that he no longer serve in an elected capacity.

Both cities have posted the vacancies on their Web sites, www.fruitheightscity.com and www.kaysvillecity.com.

Applicants will be interviewed during the Nov. 9 council meeting, and the council will select Stephenson's replacement Nov. 21. The new council member will be sworn in Dec. 5.

For Kaysville residents, a decision likely won't be made until Nov. 14.

In November 2005, Todd Stevenson, who had been on the Fruit Heights City Council, and Neka Roundy, who had been on the Kaysville City Council, were elected as mayors of their respective cities. The city councils selected replacements in early February.

Both councils appointed former council members who had lost in the 2005 election. Fruit Heights appointed DeeEll Fifield, and Kaysville appointed Mark Johnson.
