Salt Lake County expands early voting due to high turnout

The Salt Lake County clerk's office is expanding early voting for the general election.

Due to high turnout, the office is opening this Saturday and next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and adding more voting machines.

In-office voting hours Monday through Friday are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen said more early voting will mean shorter lines on Election Day, Nov. 7.

This is the first year Utah is using new touch-screen voting machines, and officials say that means it could take people longer to vote as they figure out the new equipment.

The Salt Lake County clerk's office is located in the Salt Lake County Government Center at 2001 S. State St. For a list of all early voting locations and other information, check the clerk's Web site.
