SWAN DAY PLANNED

The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge will hold Tundra Swan Day on Nov. 11. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Guided tours to view the swans will be given from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Educational displays on swans and various children's activities will be offered at the educational center.

Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras. The fee is $1 per person or $5 per family.

Those attending must preregister for Swan Day by calling 435-734-6422. The refuge is located at 2155 W. Forest Street in Brigham City. To reach the center, take Exit 363 off I-15 and turn left.

SLED-DOG RACE EXPANDED

The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race has expanded the 2007 route to include Big Piney/Marbleton. The 2007 race will be from Jan. 26 through Feb. 3. It begins in Jackson, Wyo., and ends in Park City.

The event will start in Jackson, then continue to Lander, Pinedale, Cora, Big Piney/Marbleton, Alpine, Kemmerer/Diamondville and Bridger Valley before ending in Park City.

The event has become the largest sled-dog race in the lower 48 states.

TOUR GETS RECOGNIZED

Known as "America's Toughest Tour," the Tour of Utah has been awarded International Cycling Union status, which means it will be given a date on the 2007 UCI calendar.

The Tour of Utah is a "Tour de France-style" six-day, six-stage, 500-mile bike race across some of northern Utah's most beautiful and challenging landscapes. Planning for 2007 is already under way with the tour dates to be set for late July or early August.

Officials are currently looking at several routes for the 2007 event.

SPOOKY SKATE SLATED

The Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns is hosting "Spooky Skate" public skating sessions.

Skate rentals will be free on Friday and Saturday at the oval for those in costume. Skating admission is $4 for adults and $3 for youths and seniors. Hours will be 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
