Layton Christian joins lineup for start of 1A playoff tournament

Layton Christian defeated Meridian in three sets on Tuesday in a play-in game for the 1A prep volleyball tournament. The 1A tournament will begin Friday at UVSC.

REGION 1

CLEARFIELD DEF. WEBER 25-13, 25-13, 22-25, 25-16: Devree Taylor had 13 kills and 10 digs, Shelby Wilcox had 12 kills and seven blocks, and Kylie Yardley had 40 assists to lead Clearfield over Weber.

DAVIS DEF. LAYTON 25-18, 25-13, 21-25, 26-24: Anna Bullard had 30 assists and Taya Langston had 16 kills as Davis defeated Layton.

VIEWMONT DEF. NORTHRIDGE 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 20-25, 15-11: The Vikings relied on their defense as they upset the Knights in region play. The team had 22 blocks with middle hitter Natalie Bonner leading the way with six blocks, while Amanda Carter had 12 digs and libero Amy Earnshaw picked up nine digs.

Erica Evans led the Knights with 13 kills and eight digs, while Emily Callaway and Alexis Furlong earned 12 kills each.

REGION 2

SKYLINE DEF. JORDAN 25-13, 25-19, 25-5: Skyline defeated Jordan in straight games. The Eagles were spearheaded by Tara Nielson and Emilee Roberts.

BRIGHTON DEF. ALTA 25-17, 25-15, 25-6: Brighton easily defeated Alta in three straight games. The Bengals had a .517 hitting percentage.

REGION 3

BINGHAM DEF. HUNTER 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17: Camrie Copier had 14 kills and three blocks and Megan Marks had eight kills and seven blocks as the Miners rallied to beat the Wolverines after losing the first game.

WEST JORDAN DEF. KEARNS 26-24, 23-25, 25-11, 25-23: Amber Wasden recorded 30 assists and five blocks and Julianne Tialavea had 10 kills and three blocks in the Jaguar win.

RIVERTON DEF. COPPER HILLS 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23: Tanza Buroker had nine kills and Krysten McGlochin contributed three service aces and eight kills to lead Riverton.

REGION 4

LONE PEAK DEF. AMERICAN FORK 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-10: Lacy Cramer had 14 kills to lead the Knights to a five set win against American Fork.

MOUNTAIN VIEW DEF. SPANISH FORK 25-17, 25-18, 26-24: Macy Merrell had a team-high 12 kills and four aces and senior Cortney Conrad added seven kills in the Don win.
