Given the continued rise in violence with school shootings, conflict in Nigeria and ever increasing sectarian violence in Iraq and Afghanistan, there has never been a more important time to find nonviolent solutions to domestic and international problems.
Utahns should urge their federal representatives and Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett to support legislation currently being proposed to create a Department of Peace. Such a Cabinet-level position would be a major step to decrease the level of violence throughout the world.
