There was a tsunami on Oct. 21 at the LDS Conference center. Not of destructive waves of water but one of bursting enthusiasm. Local performers danced and presented music to an audience of more than 20,000 Hispanic people. The "Tesoros de las Americas" was a celebration of cultures, legends, dance and music that unify the native people of the American continent. The audience witnessed rhythmic dancing by Polynesians, hoop dancing by Native Americans and the 300-plus member choir, which sang "Cielito Lindo."
This wonderful event was a precious gift given to the Hispanic people of the Wasatch Front by the LDS Church. It was received by many with humility, tears of gratitude and a recommitment to take their rightful place in our great society.
