The Humane Society of Utah is offering bargains on dog adoptions at its shelter during the rest of this month, Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt says.

"October is National Adopt-a-Dog Month, so of course we want to do something very special for the canines," he said.

To encourage more adoptions, all adult dogs not classified as VIPs (pedigreed, papered, etc.) can be adopted for $40 each instead of the regular $75 fee. "This is a fabulous price under any circumstances, but when you consider that the animal is already spayed or neutered, has been dewormed, has had his or her first immunizations and comes with a free leash, it's an unbelievable bargain," he says.

"And that doesn't even take into account the fact that you can't put any possible price on the absolutely unconditional love that a dog gives."

The shelter, located at 4242 S. 300 West, is open for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 261-2919.
