Two local exhibits will open locally next month featuring religious art.

• "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ" opens at the BYU Museum of Art on Nov. 17 and runs through June 16, 2007. It will portray the life and ministry of Jesus Christ through 170 works comprised of paintings, prints, icons, illuminated manuscripts and sculptures from diverse times and creeds.

An accompanying symposium is scheduled Nov. 16 and 17 at the museum, featuring a variety of scholars discussing topics centered around the theme, "Pious Pictures: Christian Iconography and Personal Expression in the Production of Faith-Based Art." The symposium is free and the public is invited. For information, see the Web site at moa.byu.edu.

• The Springville Museum of Art will host its 21st annual "Religious and Spiritual Exhibition," which runs Nov. 8 through Dec. 27. Some 230 pieces by a variety of Utah artists, selected from a pool of several hundred pieces submitted for consideration, will be on display. For information, see the Web site at www.sma.nebo.edu.
