From Deseret News archives:
Charges likely in school prank
The teens are all students at Richfield High School. Investigators confirmed to the Deseret Morning News on Friday that some of them are members of the school's football team.
"At least four of them have admitted to it," Sevier County Sheriff's deputy Russell Mason said. "Not all of them participated in everything."
A slaughtered sheep was found hanging from a goalpost Wednesday at South Sevier High School in Monroe. It was stolen from a field, shot in the head and chained to the goalpost. It was clearly intended as a game-day prank against South Sevier High, whose mascot is the "Rams."
"The rivalry has been going on for years and years and years," Mason said Friday. "They took it too far."
Police traced the locks on the chains to an area Wal-Mart store and tracked down the students who bought them.
Eventually, police rounded up all of the students involved and have been questioning them. More interviews were being conducted on Friday, deputies said.
"Everybody who's involved, we're recommending they be charged with something," Mason said.
Charges being considered by prosecutors include theft, vandalism, trespassing and cruelty to animals. Deputies said two of the teens involved recently turned 18 and would be charged as adults.
