Utah

VOLLEYBALL: It took 19 matches, but the No. 12-ranked University of Utah volleyball team (17-2, 8-0 Mountain West) played its first five-game match of the year, rallying from an 0-2 deficit to beat league rival Wyoming Saturday in Laramie, 3-2.

Game scores were 27-30, 28-30, 30-20, 30-26 and 15-9. With the loss, Wyoming falls to 8-10 on the year and to 2-6 in the MWC.

SUU

CROSS COUNTRY: Southern Utah's cross country teams defended its home turf to win the rain-soaked SUU Color Country Invitational at Cedar Ridge Golf Course, while the Thunderbird women raced to a third-place team finish.

The SUU men placed all five of their scorers in the top-16 overall to claim victory, led by junior Shaun Vernon, who placed fourth overall with a time of 24:01.37 on the near four-and-a-half mile course. Sophomore Justin Leavitt finished in seventh place at 24:09.44, while senior Karl Siebach posted a strong showing in 10th place at 24:26.04, and freshmen Derek Zabriskie (24:33.51) and Devan Antczak (24:39.81) finished 12th and 16th, respectively, to close out SUU's scoring.

UVSC

CROSS COUNTRY: The Utah Valley State women's cross country team won its second straight meet on Saturday when they won the SUU Color Country Invitational, beating Idaho State, Southern Utah, Westminster and Dixie State. Eight Wolverine runners finished the competition in the top 15.

VOLLEYBALL: Junior Ashley Brown had a career high 17 kills but Utah Valley State (11-10) still fell to North Dakota State (13-9) in four games (30-23, 26-30, 32-30, 30-23) in front of 1,069 NDSU fans on Saturday night.

Westminster

VOLLEYBALL: The Lady Griffins dropped their first match in the past 11 as they lost to the Lady Argos from the University of Great Falls in four games Friday night (28-30, 30-15, 28-30, 28-30). Despite the loss, Westminster remains in first place in the Frontier Conference at 8-1, a half-game ahead of the second place Argos.

LACROSSE: Westminster College lost to the University of Utah, a perennial top 15 program for club lacrosse, 19-14, at Utah's Stillwell Field Saturday morning. James Brand, a transfer from Utah, led the Griffins with six goals while freshman Roman Schoewe found the back of the net three times for the second-straight game.

SLCC

VOLLEYBALL: The No. 14-ranked SLCC Bruins put another win in the record book today by defeating the College of Eastern Utah for their fourth consecutive SWAC victory.

CEU fell by the wayside to SLCC, 30-11, 30-16, 26-30, and 30-15.

"We did much better than yesterday (in our match vs. CEU) and collectively we did some great things on the court", said head coach Shay Goulding Clemensen. As a team, the Bruins imparted upon the Golden Eagles a whopping 12 aces and 13 blocks.
