Utah's Administrative Office of the Courts on Friday announced three nominees for an expected vacancy in the 3rd District at the end of the year.
They are: Michael S. Evans, 3rd District Court commissioner; Carolyn Nichols, who works with the attorney general's office; and Vernice S. Trease, with the Salt Lake Legal Defender's Association.
A 10-day public comment period begins Monday and will continue until 5 p.m. on Oct. 23. The names will then be sent on to Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr., who will have 30 days to select one of the nominees. The selected candidate must then be approved by the Senate Confirmation Committee and the Utah State Senate before replacing Judge Dennis Fuchs, who announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.
Third District Court serves Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.
