• Use firm, even pressure to apply the stamp. Don't rock back and forth.

• Choose the appropriate ink for your project. Craft inks work on paper, fabric and wood. Acrylics are best for walls.

• Clean stamps before putting them away. You can clean them with a mild soap, but avoid getting wood parts wet. You can also get special cleaning pads that let you press the stamp on the pad and wipe away the paint.

• Make sure the stamp is inked evenly. Ink pads are a popular way to ink the stamp, but you can also brush on paint with a paintbrush or use markers.

• If you are stamping on walls, keep a wet cloth handy. If you make a mistake, you can wipe it off before it dries.

• If you are making cards, don't forget the envelopes. A matching design can be stamped on the envelope to tie them together.

• Try two-tone stamping. You can use different stamps on top of each other. Or, you can stamp an outline and then color it in with paints, crayons, markers or other colors.

• Don't be afraid to experiment with different materials, textures and effects.

• Have fun.
