Step by step: Stamped embellished frame

Published: Friday, Oct. 13 2006 12:00 a.m. MDT

Supplies

• Unfinished wood frame

• Harlequin stamp

• StazOn black ink pad

• StazOn all-purpose cleaner

• Gold-leaf paint pen

• Copper paint pen

• Crystal sequins

• Glue

Instructions:

STEP 1. Press ink pad over entire stamp.

STEP 2. Test the stamp on scrap paper, then re-ink. This is called seasoning the stamp. It helps the ink build density.

STEP 3. Begin stamping the frame. Rotate stamp to line up the pattern as you progress. Re-ink the stamp before pressing the image.

STEP 4. Clean your stamp once you have finished stamping the frame. Have a wet paper towel ready to wipe off excess ink from the stamp. Clean the stamp thoroughly with StazOn all-purpose cleaner (or similar cleaning solution) before storing the stamp. Not all the ink will come off.

STEP 5. Add color. You can use paint pens or acrylic paint. A paint pen will cover the black ink that has been stamped, while the acrylic paint is somewhat transparent when brushed on. Here, a gold-leaf pen is used to fill in alternating diamonds.

STEP 6. Fill in rest of open diamonds with copper paint or paint pen.

STEP 7. Glue crystal sequins on the points of the diamonds for embellishment.

Resources: StazOn ink pad, StazOn cleaner, ink pens, acrylic paint, sequins and unfinished wood frame can be found at most craft stores. Kyrlon gold-leafing pen was purchased at Wal-Mart but likely can be found at most larger craft stores. Harlequin diamond stamp, by Stampers Anonymous, is available locally at Stampin' Happy.
