Oct. 16 though the 20th is Medical Assistants Recognition Week and Oct. 18 is Medical Assistants Day.
Who are these medical assistants? People who work in doctor's offices and clinics. They greet you when you arrive, collect your co-pay, file your insurance and help you figure out those complicated claims. They take you to the exam room and take your vital signs and history. They assist the doctor with procedures. They might even draw your blood, do simple lab tests, take some X-rays and give shots. They ask questions about you and your family. They remember your name and they give hugs when needed.
So, when you visit your doctor during the third week in October, tell the CMA and medical assistant, "Happy Medical Assistants Day!"
