A missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died Monday after he slipped down an embankment while hiking in Durban, South Africa.
Elder Jason David Fry of Silverdale, Wash., had been serving in the South Africa Durban Mission for the past five months. He and a few other missionaries were hiking in a popular scenic area on their preparation day when he lost his footing and fell, church spokesman Dale Bills said in a statement.
Emergency crews tried to revive Fry at the scene but were unsuccessful. Bills said Fry's parents have been notified and funeral arrangements are pending.
