Lehi shows no fear on the road in upset of top-ranked Provo

PROVO — They came into the match undefeated and ranked No. 1 in 4A volleyball, but the Provo Bulldogs couldn't put it all together in an important region match against the Lehi Pioneers on Tuesday.

Lehi invaded the Bulldogs' gym and came out with a three-game upset sweep (25-14, 25-16, 27-25).

Provo came into the match with a 6-0 league record, and the Pioneers were 5-1 with their only loss coming to the Bulldogs. But now the two schools have evened things up at 6-1 in the race for the Region 7 title.

Lehi's franchise player, Christina Measom, couldn't be stopped as she pounded down 23 kills while hitting .556 against one of the state's best defensive squads.

"That's the Christina we've needed to see all season," said Lehi coach Jamie Ingersoll. "Her best thing is to swing, and when she started swinging at balls it made everyone more effective."

The victory is even bigger than evening up the league race with Provo and proving they can play with the toughest teams in the state, however.

"This was huge because we've never beaten Provo and it was a huge confidence booster," Ingersoll said. "When all of the parts of the game are working, it makes a big difference,"

But Measom wasn't the only player putting things together for the Pioneers. Kahau Ha'o played the game of her season from all over the court.
