I am curious about Paul Mero's solution to the education problems (Oct. 8). It is easy to say something isn't working and complain about those who are trying to fix it. It is another to come up with solutions. In reading his My View piece, I can only conclude that we should stop trying to educate all the people in this country and focus on those with enough money or home support to earn this right. He points to home schooling and private schools as systems that work. Do they work because of what they are or because of the small number of pupils each teacher is working with? Are the teachers really any different than public-education teachers?
