Julie Slack (Readers' Forum, Sept. 24) has it right when it comes to the need for universal health care. Just ask Norway, Sweden, Canada, Australia and others with such a plan. You'll find they rank far better than the United States in important measures of health and human development. The cost would be well worth it, and it could easily be done without increasing the budget.

Do away with corporate welfare and, presto, funding for a nifty health-care program appears.
