Greg Madsen, left, of Viewmont High School, is a step too late to defend as Brett Shaw, right, of Fremont High, clutches a touchdown pass Friday in Bountiful.

BOUNTIFUL Riding a best-ever 6-0 start, the Viewmont Vikings were having an incredible season heading into their pivotal Region 1 clash with the Fremont Silver Wolves on Friday.
Fremont's Greydn Morin did his best to change all that. The senior quarterback threw for 96 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in leading the Silver Wolves past the Vikings 21-0.
With both teams earning identical yards from scrimmage, it was Morin's timely throws that made the difference. Fremont coach Blaine Monkres was impressed with the poise his quarterback showed.
"Greydn played really well tonight. He stayed calm and found who was open," he said.
Morin's first touchdown throw came on Fremont's first possession of the game. After forcing Viewmont to go three and out, the Silver Wolves marched down the field using a wide-open four-receiver, one-running back offense.
On the other end of Morin's 18-yard touchdown pass was senior receiver Brett Shaw, who reached over the shorter Viewmont defender to snag the ball out of the air.
After its initial touchdown, drive Fremont's offense began to stall.
Viewmont was dropping its linebackers into coverage making it difficult to find open passing lanes. Fortunately for Fremont, Viewmont was having an equally hard time on offense. The Vikings' usually stout running attack was held in check thanks to an incredible effort from Fremont's defensive line.
Defensive tackle Riley Greenhalgh was constantly harassing Viewmont quarterback Greg Madsen. His sack late in the second quarter prevented the Vikings from tying the score before halftime. Not to be outdone, fellow lineman Brent Jenkins played the entire game and was a big reason Viewmont only averaged 2.7 yards per carry.
"Brent Jenkins was a man tonight,"said Monkres. "I don't think he took a play off all game."
It was deja vu for the Silver Wolves in the second half. On its first possession of the third quarter, Fremont marched 80 yards on seven plays, culminating on another 18-yard touchdown pass from Morin to Shaw. The score not only put Fremont up 14-0, but it also made Viewmont start throwing the ball more to catch up, not its strong suit.
In the fourth quarter the Silver Wolves turned to sophomore running back Dalton Aiken to take pressure off Morin and to ice the game. He did both, finishing with 106 yards on 25 carries.
