Allegations are ridiculous

Drew Mecham (Readers' Forum, Sept. 27) suggested voters need to "fire" Rep. Chris Cannon because he made the list of a so-called advocacy group known as the "Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington." The basis used to discredit Cannon was his relationship to his brother Joe Cannon, who is a lobbyist. No corruption has been proven, although what is alleged is nonsense in my view.

Just who are "Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington"? No one knows. A 2005 editorial from The Hill, a newspaper that covers Congress, criticized CREW for not being clear as to who is running the organization and contended that much of their criticism targets Republicans. Who made the list of Most Corrupt Members of Congress? Surprise, surprise. Four Democrats and 21 Republicans.
