A PBS documentary about two ill-fated handcart companies will premiere locally Sunday at 7 p.m. on KBYU, channel 11.
"Sweetwater Rescue: The Willie and Martin Handcart Story," by local documentary filmmaker Lee Groberg, was originally scheduled to air later in the month but has recently been rescheduled. The script, by local historian Heidi Swinton, has also been published as a book by the same name, featuring art by a variety of local artists.
Another film explaining the documentary, called "The Making of Sweetwater Rescue," will also be shown Sunday at 4 p.m. on KSL-TV, channel 5. The original art pieces featured in the book will be displayed at the LDS Church History Museum and the Utah Art and History Museum in a unique simultaneous exhibit from Sept. 29 to Oct. 31. The LDS Church History Museum will continue exhibiting the series until Jan. 2, 2007.
