• The annual Utah Valley Leadership Summit hosted by the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce will be at the Sundance Resort Rehearsal Hall, from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Speakers include Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert, Utah Valley State College President William Sederburg, Utah World Trade Center Executive Director Lew Crame, Orem Mayor Jerry Washburn and Provo Mayor Lewis Billings. • Swing Dance classes, from 8-11 p.m. at Center Street Musical Theatre, 177 W. Center, Provo. Cost: $5 per person at the door. Learn swing dance music from the '30s, '40s and some contemporary music. Swing era or semiformal attire encouraged. Call 764-0535.

Friday, Sept. 29

• UVSC's Center for the Study of Ethics will host Jeff Paterson, a former Marine corporal and the first publicly known, active-duty military resistant in the Gulf War. Paterson will speak about his experiences in the armed forces and military life in a speech titled, "The Ethics of Passivism" at 1 p.m. at Centre Stage in the Sorensen Student Center on the UVSC campus.

• "Shane," the 1953 Western classic directed by George Stevens, will open the new season of the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archives Film Series, at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium. Seating is limited. No food or drink is permitted in the auditorium, and children 8 and up are welcome. Free.

Saturday, Sept. 30

• Doggie Fun Day, 10 a.m. at Wines Park, 500 North and Center Street, Lehi. Open to all breeds. Featuring: Course A'Lure (as seen on Animal Planet). Let your dog run and have fun chasing a lure through tunnels and jumps while racing the clock. Free obedience training by PetSmart from 11 to 1 p.m. Presented as as benefit for the Jack Russell Terrier Association. Call 756-5330.

• Utah Valley Chapter of the Utah Native Plant Society will host a native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 15 S. 800 West, Orem. A variety of native plants, seeds and bulbs will be offered. Most plants for sale will be the low-water-use variety. Call 224-8121.

Monday, Oct. 2
