PROVO — The Brigham Young University Museum of Art is looking for volunteers who are interested in conducting tours of the museum's upcoming exhibition on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ."

Those interested in becoming tour guides for "Beholding Salvation" are invited to attend an orientation meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Museum of Art auditorium on the museum's lower level. Following the initial orientation meeting, museum educators will provide three classroom-based trainings that will be focused on the content of the exhibition as well as museum tour guide strategies and techniques. In addition to the classes, volunteers will have an opportunity to practice leading tours and to become familiar with the gallery layout.

"This is a unique opportunity to be a part of an inspiring visual experience," says Museum of Art head curator Cheryll May. "Our docents will become intimately acquainted with artworks of great beauty and meaning and have a chance to share their discoveries with the many visitors we're expecting at the exhibition."

"Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ," will be on view at the Museum of Art from Nov. 17 through June 16, 2007. The exhibition will examine the changing image of Christ and chronicle his life and ministry through 170 works of paintings, prints, icons, illuminated manuscripts and sculptures from diverse times and creeds. It will also explore the artistic styles, conventions and symbols used in Christian art that engage the viewer and encourage a deeper understanding of the viewer's relationship to deity.
