NORTH OGDEN Animal control officers have captured a pair of pit bulls suspected of going on a rampage in North Ogden, attacking animals and chasing people.
Police responded to a series of calls about 6 p.m. Tuesday concerning a pair of pit bulls that were loose near 1400 North and Monroe Boulevard. The pit bulls had just attacked another dog and then went after the dog's owner.
"She threw a rock at the dogs," North Ogden Police Chief Polo Afuvai said Wednesday. "The dogs came after her and chased her back into the house."
From there, Afuvai said the dogs went to a nearby barn and killed a kitten. Police and animal control officers were trying to chase the dogs down.
"They tried to contain the animals. They (the dogs) took off in the field heading toward Ogden," the chief said. Police are now investigating reports that the pit bulls tried to attack a horse.
"They went after a horse, but we don't know if the horse was injured," Afuvai said.
North Ogden police alerted neighboring agencies to keep an eye out for the dogs. Officers fielded calls of possible sightings on Wednesday. Early Thursday, police said animal control officers rounded up a pair of pit bulls in Ogden believed to have attacked the animals.
Investigators are also trying to find out who the dogs' owners are, because they could face a number of charges for the attacks that have already taken place, Afuvai said.
