Track Rx renewals on free calendar

Dear Heloise: Here is a variation of your suggestion to use an exclusive notebook to record medical prescriptions and medical information.

Instead, I use one of those complimentary calendars that come in at the end of the year. To begin, I estimate when each prescription will run out and note it on the calendar.

For mail-order renewals, I then count back two weeks for the date when a replacement must be ordered.

Where there are two or more people in the household, it would be easy to use different-color pens for each person. — James in Maryland

Dear Heloise: Plastic coffee-can lids or any flat, plastic carton lid may be used between glass mixing bowls, baking dishes and nonstick cookware.

Inexpensive paper plates can also be used in the same way, and folded napkins can be placed between small glass bowls to keep the bowls from sticking together too tightly. — R.R., Salem, Ore.

You know what else you can use that you probably have in your pantry? Coffee filters. They are perfect to use between glass dishes. — Heloise

Dear Heloise: I pay most of my bills online and don't need the return envelopes that come with the statements. I use them to send notes, lunch money, etc., to the school. This keeps me from messing up a new envelope and recycles as well. —Tracey in Texas

Just remember, if it has a bar code, do not use it as a mailing envelope, or it will go to the address that's encoded in the bar code! —Heloise

SOUND ON

Dear Heloise: This is in response to a Sound Off in your column. I recently wanted to purchase a catalog item for $5.95 but didn't want to pay the high postage rate.

So, I called the company and asked if there was any way I could get it but at a lower postage cost. To my surprise, she said she would send it to me for free.

I can't say all companies would do business this way, but it doesn't hurt to ask questions. —D.K. in Indiana

Many companies do have great customer service. When something nice like this happens, be sure to compliment them. —Heloise
