A man who calls himself the "king of child pornography" pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of possessing and receiving child pornography.
A day after being indicted by a federal grand jury, Kirk Alan Swearingen appeared in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City to face the charges. Swearingen, 45, was arrested by FBI agents when he gave a stolen Social Security number while trying to rent a Salt Lake City apartment. The apartment.The Social Security Number belonged to a 91-year-old man.
During questioning, agents said Swearingen gave them another fake identity. After threatening to run his fingerprints, Swearingen admitted he was a fugitive who has been on the run for 22 years, even having been profiled on "America's Most Wanted."
Agents discovered that Swearingen has warrants in several states for child sex offenses, including Iowa, South Dakota and New Mexico. He was convicted of a child sex offense in Colorado back in 1983 and has several criminal charges pending in other states.
