I am frustrated and angered by letters like Robert Taylor's ("No right to health care," Readers' Forum, Sept. 20) that spill attitudes such as "find some other cost-cutting measure." I would like to know if he has ever been denied health-care coverage because he either (1) makes too much money for Medicaid or CHIP; (2) his company doesn't offer insurance so he can't get health-care coverage; (3) he cannot actually afford COBRA which can be $2,000 per month; or (4) he has pre-existing conditions so the private insurance companies will not insure him. The list goes on.
Give me an ever-loving break. Take your attitudes of "just cut back" and get a reality check of what hard-working, honest Americans are going through. Do your homework on the subject, or better yet, file bankruptcy after a long health crisis and then open your mouth and see if you sing a different tune.
Our family appeared on the front page of a Deseret Morning News Sunday edition a few years back as "a family who falls between the cracks." There are many such families out there. And yes, I do believe we "deserve" health care coverage!
