Tax reform may get reformed

Huntsman and advisers already talking about additional reform

"There would be no losers, none," said Prescott. "No one would pay more," and many would pay less. That's where the overall tax cuts come in.

"We have a wonderful opportunity for a very transparent, broadbased, low rate system — one that gives us all of the good we wanted to achieve before. And we have the (old) system off to the side for those who need it."

"We don't want (tax reform) to stagnate," said Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper. "We need to move this forward in the (2007) Legislature, if possible."

Said Prescott: "If we try a piecemeal approach" — and some say the flat-rate tax adopted Tuesday was just a small, first step — "we will have a real tax tragedy. We need to keep a broad vision; keep our courage. Let's do this right."
