As if we don't have enough laws controlling our every act, now Congress wants to prohibit the sale of horse meat for human consumption (HR503). In my carnivorous opinion, consumption of horse meat is no different from eating pork or beef or chicken. In fact, horse meat was not uncommon in the United States until about 60 years ago and is common in many other countries.
The mere fact that horses are slaughtered by the same processes accepted for slaughtering beef is hardly reason to ban horse meat. The opposition to consumption of horse meat by such groups as the Humane Society and PETA is reason enough to eat more horses. The sale and consumption of horse meat should be regulated only by appropriate health standards and a free market.
