BUENOS AIRES — A strong earthquake sent panicked residents fleeing from their homes Sunday in Argentina, but it caused no injuries or damages, authorities said. The magnitude 6.1 quake was felt in the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja.

Austria

VIENNA — A Czech bus veered off a road in northern Austria early Sunday, killing 4 people and injuring 38, police said. It was not immediately clear what caused the bus to plunge into a ditch and come to a stop on its roof near the town of Schrems.

Canada

TORONTO — Mexican-born director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde's feature film debut, the unheralded "Bella," took the top audience prize at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival. International critics gave an award to the controversial British TV movie "Death of a President," which centers on a fictionalized assassination of President Bush.

England

LONDON — Failing vision forced him to memorize part of the service, but a 100-year-old priest returned to the pulpit of the Church of England on Sunday and his efforts won a cheer from worshippers. The Rev. Kingsley Laws officially retired in 1979 but jumped at the chance of preaching to his flock one last time at his local church in Wells, southwest England.

France

NANTES — Some 20,000 residents Nantes, of one of the largest cities on France's Atlantic coast, were evacuated from their homes Sunday while experts defused an unexploded Allied bomb from World War II.

Israel

JERUSALEM — The Israeli Cabinet on Sunday authorized an inquiry into the government's handling of the recent war against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, capping weeks of disagreements over the scope of the investigation.

JERUSALEM — The bodies of two children of Theodore Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, will be transported from France to Israel to be buried near their father, in keeping with his century-old will, the government said Sunday. Herzl, who died in 1904 at age 44.

Japan

TOKYO — A strong typhoon swept toward southwestern Japan with fierce winds and heavy rains Sunday, leaving at least five people dead or missing and injuring more than 100.
