CEDAR CITY The Iron County Attorney said he will not file criminal charges against a Florida man who shot and killed an intruder who barged into a motor home.
Cedar City police said Stephen Stubbs, 26, entered Carl Coltellino's RV, which was parked outside a Wal-Mart store on July 25. Police said Coltellino's wife and two young daughters were inside the RV at the time.
"After the forced entry, Mr. Stubbs refused to leave the motor home and a struggle ensued," Iron County Attorney Scott Garrett wrote in a statement released last week. "During the course of the struggle, Mr. Coltellino retrieved a weapon, demanding that Stubbs leave his residence."
Garrett said the family did not know Stubbs, who tried to take the weapon from Coltellino and was shot and killed in the struggle.
"This event is extremely unfortunate, especially for those families that are involved. They will likely never forget the events of that tragic night," Garrett said.
