Football on The mtn. also causes uproar in Boise

There is one reason to be happy about the distribution problems

The mtn. is having — it caused quite an uproar in Boise.

Boise State plays at Wyoming on Saturday, and the game will be

exclusive to The mtn. Broncos fans were moaning and wailing and

gnashing their teeth because their local cable company hadn't signed

on to carry The mtn.and efforts by a Boise TV station to pick up the

telecast were rebuffed.

Having observed their behavior last year in Logan and three years

ago in Provo, let me just say — couldn't happen to a more deserving

bunch of fans.

Cable One in Boise did agree to add The mtn. late Thursday, Which

is good for the Mountain West Conference — which, ironically, Boise

State has been unsuccessfully campaigning to join.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of fans.

YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY to see BYU on TV on Saturday. You've got to subscribe to a cable or satellite system and pay enough money so that ESPN2 is part of your programming package.

Just trying to add a little perspective ...

The 10 a.m. game at Boston College will be on ESPN2 because BC is a member of the ACC, which has a TV contract with the Disney-owned networks.

Utah's game will be the only free, over-the-air game involving one of our local Mountain West teams this season — the Utes' 6 p.m. visit to Utah State will be on KJZZ. Because Ch. 14 has the rights to USU home games (unless those rights are pre-empted by the WAC's contract with ESPN).

I'VE HEARD SOME COMPLAINTS as well as some praise for the production value of The mtn.'s telecasts of BYU-Tulsa and Utah-NAU this past Saturday. I was concerned myself before the season began, based on the quality of CSTV football telecasts in past seasons.

But I've got to say that CSTV/The mtn. really stepped it up this year. Game coverage wasn't perfect — what game is perfectly covered? — but it was good.
